Tick-Talk: Tips for Preventing Lyme Disease and Other Tick-Borne Diseases

Wednesday, March 21, 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:30pm

Building: 46-3189 (Brain & Cognitive Sciences)

Presenter: Howard M. Heller, M.D., M.P.H.; Associate Medical Director, MIT Medical

Spring is upon us! You can finally shed those winter clothes and frolic through the fields and woodlands…but you may still be wary of rolling up your sleeves, thanks to those eight-legged buggers we call ticks. Ticks, as we know, spread Lyme disease, a syndrome also known as the “great imposter,” as it mimics over 350 different medical conditions. Lyme disease is now a global concern, and those of us living in New England are among the highest at risk. So…it’s time to have the tick-talk.

This seminar will provide you with:

  • Tips for avoiding and preventing tick bites and Lyme disease
  • Information to help you recognize tick-infested areas
  • An overview of Lyme disease—including symptoms and available treatments
  • Intervention strategies if a possible tick bite has occurred
