FSA Reimbursement

To receive reimbursement from your MIT Health Care FSA, you must either use your MIT Health Care FSA debit card, file an online claim, or complete and return the Health Care FSA Reimbursement Form (PDF). However you choose to file a claim:

  • The eligible period for submitting claims is from January 1 through March 15 of the following year. This means that you can use the funds in your Health Care FSA account to pay for medical expenses incurred through March 15 of the following year.
  • Claims for expenses you pay on or before March 15 of any given year will be paid out of your account balance from the previous year's contributions.
  • You are reimbursed for the full amount of your claim—regardless of your account balance—as long as your claim does not exceed your annual contribution.
  • You receive your reimbursement within two weeks after filing your claim.

When to file for reimbursement

You can file a claim for an eligible expense at any time between the date on which you receive service and the next April 30.

Health Care FSA debit card

  • Once you have enrolled in the MIT Health Care FSA, you are eligible to receive a debit card that provides immediate electronic access to the money in your health care FSA. You will continue to use the same debit card as long as you re-enroll in your MIT Health Care FSA.
  • Use your debit card to pay for any eligible expense at the time of service.
  • Because your debit card draws directly from your account, you are reimbursed immediately—no need to submit a separate claim for reimbursement.
  • Be sure to save all receipts from your debit card purchases. You may need them to verify expense eligibility and reimbursement records.
  • To request an additional card for a family member, contact Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc. at servicecenter@crosbybenefits.com or (800) 462-2235.
