MIT’s Committee on the Use of Humans as Experimental Subjects plays a difficult but crucial role — assessing the ethics of scientific projects and protecting the people involved. As the administrator of this program, today’s awardee is a tough enforcer who also understands how to help researchers, finding ways to ensure informed consent and help each study team reach their scientific goals. One nominator noted that she went out of her way to help him meet an NSF Career Award deadline; another remarked that her quick work has made it possible for undergraduates to conduct original brain research.
Even when presented with proposals in multiple languages at the last minute, she retains her enthusiasm and good cheer. For her wisdom and dedication, this Serving the Client Award goes to Judith Medeiros-Adams.
