TCC Westgate is a small child care cooperative offering older toddler/preschool services to 12 children (27 months and older by September 1, 2007) whose parents volunteer to work side by side with our teachers. The community at our center is close-knit, friendly, and international; we have a multilingual approach, teaching the children in both English and their own languages. As teachers, we focus on and work with the strengths of each individual child to help the child develop and grow.
We are located on the MIT campus in a residential building. The floor-to-ceiling windows in our classroom bring us an abundance of natural light, and we have an extensive playground outside.
Our emergent curriculum is developmentally appropriate, and grows with the children. Parents and family members volunteer for either four hours per week or per month to offset tuition costs. Parents receive 16 hours of training as preparation to be classroom volunteers and then begin assisting our teachers. Other parent volunteer activities include providing assistance with accounting, maintenance, cooking, cleaning, and more.
TCC Westgate is not yet age-eligible for National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation but will soon be working toward this goal.
