"It's exciting to work with the MIT community, where people are looking for very rich programming for their children, above and beyond finding them a safe place to spend the day. Our parents and families, who are unusually well-informed in the sciences, want to talk about the latest early childhood research and studies. They have a vision of what high-quality child care should be—and a commitment to helping us make this vision a reality.
"The quality of the relationships we have with our families is what makes it possible for us to challenge the children and support them. Our emergent curriculum has well-defined core goals yet is very flexible, changing when the children change. It's creative, too, so my art background has been useful. The flexibility lets us work one-on-one with the children to address their needs and interests. By getting to know each child as an individual, we help them develop their own sense of self."
