Career Panels and Events

Meetings and informal briefings can help departments provide career information to employees. These forums help organizations reduce functional isolation and build the work community. Examples include:

  • Career Network Event or internal “career fair” offers employees an informal opportunity to learn about a school or department’s range of job roles.

Representatives of different departments come together to share information about typical roles and work within their function, as well as the strategic goals of their organization.

These events encourage networking and serve as mechanisms for leaders to communicate strategies, changes, and new initiatives. Handout material may include departmental overviews, job families, and sample job roles, as well as skill and competency profiles.

  • Career Panels are an effective way to share information about a specific department. Two to four panelists share career experiences, strategies for success, and provide departmental overviews. These presentations help build community in a department and encourage networking. Employees learn about ways to develop in their current job role.
