What you should know

  • Arrange to meet with a retirement benefits counselor (contact the Benefits Office for an appointment)
    • if you plan to retire within the next year — and definitely no later than six months before retirement
    • if you plan to retire in the next two or three years and want to clarify benefits and plan your financial strategy
  • Application for retirement benefits must be completed no earlier than 180 days but no later than 45 days before the start of retirement plan payments.
  • In addition to the benefits described on this site, retirees continue to have access to benefits like the Children's Scholarship Plan, Long-Term Care Insurance, and the Home and Auto Insurance Discount.
