Supplemental 401(k) Enrollment

When to Enroll

If you are paid on a monthly basis, you must enroll or make deferral changes by 4 p.m. ET on the 15th of a month in order for the initial enrollment or change to take effect with your paycheck at the end of that month.

If you are paid on a weekly basis, you must enroll or make deferral changes by 4 p.m. ET on Thursday in order to have the initial enrollment or change take effect at the end of the following week.

When you enroll, you should complete a 401(k) Plan Beneficiary Designation form (available at top right), so that in the event of your death, your benefits are paid according to your wishes.

How to Enroll

You may enroll in the MIT 401(k) Plan in one of two ways:

By Phone: The first time you call toll-free (877) MIT-SAVE (648-7283), you will be asked to establish a Personal Identification Number (PIN) of 6 to 12 numbers. You choose your own PIN. You will only need to do this once, unless you elect to change it. You will be asked to provide your Social Security Number, your date of birth, and your home zip code. Once you have established a PIN, you will be guided through the telephone enrollment process. TTY service is available for the speech and hearing impaired by calling (800) 259-9243.

On-line: Log on to NetBenefits at www.Fidelity.com/atwork. The first time you log on to NetBenefits, you will be asked to establish a Personal Identification Number (PIN) of 6 to 12 numbers. You choose your own PIN. You will only need to do this once, unless you elect to change it. Once you have established a PIN, you will be guided through the online enrollment process.

International Toll-Free Telephone Service
 If you live outside the U.S., dial the AT&T access code for the country from which you are calling. When prompted, dial (877) 343-0860.

Once your PIN is set up:

  • You will be prompted to enter it at the beginning of all future calls; and,
  • Your account will be enabled for NetBenefits.

NetBenefits is currently designed to work with the following versions of Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer:

  • Netscape Navigator: Fidelity supports 128-bit released versions of 3.01 or higher for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, NT 4.0, UNIX and MAC operating systems.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer: Fidelity supports 128-bit released versions of 3.02, 4.0 and 4.01 for Windows 95 and NT 4.0 operating systems. NT 4.0 users need Service Pack 3.0.
  • International customers may use 40-bit copies of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or higher.

In order to ensure the security of your information, Fidelity Investments has designed NetBenefits to be a secure environment, which is why they require the U.S. Security version of the Netscape and Microsoft browser.
