Changes in Your Status OverviewMany of the health and welfare benefit plans offered through MIT are paid with pre-tax dollars. In exchange for the tax advantage, you are prohibited from enrolling in, canceling or making any changes in the coverage level of your medical, dental, and reimbursement account plans outside of the annual MIT open enrollment period in the Fall, unless you have an allowable change in family or employment status. The change in the level of your coverage must be on account of and consistent with your change in family or employment status. To make a change in coverage level, an Enrollment/Change form must be received in the Benefits Office within 31 days of the event. The change will be effective on the date of the event.
