Preparing to Retire OverviewIt is never too early to meet with a Retirement Benefits Counselor to discuss retirement issues. In fact, many retirees found it useful to start their long-term retirement planning with a counselor 2-3 years prior to retiring. Campus and Lincoln Laboratory Retirement Benefits Counselors are available to discuss and review your retirement benefits. If you are within 2-3 years of retiring, we suggest you meet with a Retirement Benefits Counselor to discuss the full range of distribution options under both the MIT Basic Retirement Plan and the MIT Supplemental 401(k) Plan as well as retiree health and welfare benefits. Retirement Benefits Counselors can provide you with information that will help you make informed decisions about your retirement. Deadline of Application for Retirement Benefits: You should meet with a Retirement Benefits Counselor no later than six months before retirement to review your benefits. Application for retirement benefits must be completed no earlier than 90 days, but no later than 45 days before retirement benefit payments commence. Find Out More
