Life Events OverviewHave you ever gone through a life event (like marriage or the birth or adoption of a child) and wondered how it affects your benefits at MIT? The MIT Benefits Office would like to make this change a positive experience for you. Remember . The MIT Benefits Office holds an Open Enrollment period in the Fall of each year to give you the opportunity to make changes that suit your personal needs. What if you have a life event before or after the Open Enrollment period? Many of the health and welfare benefit plans offered through MIT are paid with pre-tax dollars. In exchange for the tax advantage, you are prohibited from enrolling in, canceling or making any changes in the coverage level of your medical, dental, and reimbursement account plans outside of the annual MIT open enrollment period, unless you have an allowable change in family or employment status.
