General Information

In general, the benefit programs of the Institute are available to all faculty, staff, support, and service staff who are appointed for at least 50 percent of the normal full-time schedule of their department or laboratory with a minimum appointment of three months, and who are paid by MIT. The benefits do not, however, apply to members of the graduate or undergraduate student staff, to postdoctoral or research fellows, to most visitors and members of the Armed Services assigned to the Institute. See further information about benefit eligibility.

Members of the office staff are available to help you understand plan provisions and to assist you with claim filing procedures. Because the benefits program is flexible and diverse, orientation programs are conducted weekly to explain the plan so you can make informed decisions about the various benefits available to you. Although the focus of the orientation programs is on the choices available to new employees, eligible members of the MIT community who would like a review of the benefits package are invited to attend. Due to space limitations, please call (617) 253-6151 if you would like to make a reservation for one of these sessions.
